Pathology Overview

Understanding Lateral Hip & Gluteal Therapy

Outer hip pain is commonly driven by Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS) or gluteal tendinopathy, which involve irritation or overload of the gluteal tendons inserting on the side of the hip.

Deep gluteal syndrome and piriformis syndrome occur when nerves in the gluteal region become compressed or irritated by surrounding musculature, causing deep ache or radiating symptoms down the back of the leg.

Our team provides specialized hip pain treatment in Chennai to reduce tendon compression, restore gluteal muscle capacity, and resolve nerve mobility restrictions.

Modalities Offered

Treatment Approaches

  • Manual therapy and soft tissue release to ease muscle guarding
  • Progressive loading programs to strengthen the gluteal tendons
  • Nerve gliding techniques to resolve deep gluteal nerve irritation
  • Biomechanical analysis to correct hip loading during walking or running

Assessment Focus

What We Measure

  • Tendon load-tolerance mapping and biomechanical assessment
  • Graduated strengthening plan for outer hip support
  • Ergonomic coaching for sleeping and sitting comfort

FAQs

Clinical Q&A

Why does my outer hip pain feel worse when lying on it?

Lying directly on the side of the hip compresses the gluteal tendons against the bone, which irritates already sensitive tissues.

Is this the same as sciatica?

No, but deep gluteal syndrome can mimic sciatica by irritating the sciatic nerve in the buttock. A clinical assessment is needed to differentiate them.

How long does gluteal tendinopathy take to recover?

Tendon healing is gradual. Most patients see significant improvement within 6 to 12 weeks of structured progressive loading.
